As the year draws to a close (I can’t believe it’s nearly December!), I thought I would round up a few of my favourite celebrity looks from 2016 because, well, who doesn’t love an excuse to look at fantastic outfits?! In no particular order…
Beyoncé stole the show at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards in New York in this mint green number by Francesco Scognamiglio. Queen Bey looked extremely elegant in the sheer, sequined dress and the ostrich feathers created a fun and theatrical aesthetic appropriate for the event, especially as she made history by winning the most awards ever at the VMAs that night!
Whilst I am not the biggest fan of the Kardashians/Jenners, I can’t deny that Kendall looked amazing on her 21st birthday in this silver Swarovski crystal dress, custom-made by the Kuwaiti fashion house. The plunging neckline and draped sides add detail to an otherwise simple dress shape and the overall design really suited her figure.
Zayn showed that he wasn’t afraid to push the boundaries at the Louis Vuitton SS16 menswear show in this embroidered floral shirt. I really like the cropped, boxy fit of the shirt and I think that it suits the blond hair that he was donning at the time. This outfit is also something totally different to the predominantly black, grungy outfits that Zayn is usually spotted in and it made for a stylish, summery alternative.
I couldn’t pick one particular event where I loved the Olsen twins’ outfits as although I’m a huge fan of their unique style, I do generally prefer their understated, casual daytime looks. This outfit is great though – Ashley managed to look chic in what is essentially an oversized sack-dress teamed with a pair of huge sunglasses, some flats and what looks to be a Starbucks coffee. She’s killing the street-style game.
After topping GQ’s ’50 Best-Dressed Men in Britain’ list this year and crowned as the face of Burberry, Eddie Redmayne had to have a place on my best-dressed list. It can sometimes be hard for guys to make a suit look stylish and on-trend but I love this fitted, cobalt blue suit as it’s a cool alternative to the classic black or pinstripe design and Eddie looked great matching his get-up with a skinny, navy tie and crisp white shirt.
At the Golden Globe Awards in January, Zendaya wore this three-tiered dress in an ox-blood colour that really suited both her skin and hair tone. With simple accessories and slicked-back hair she looked on-trend and eye-catching in an ensemble that, let’s face it, should have been very hard to pull off.
I look forward to what 2017 will bring to the celebrity fashion scene!
