New York Fashion Week: Our Highlights

As NYFW kicks off Fashion Month, the press has been awash with reports of designers’ latest collections, models of the moment and all the after parties that have been worth being seen at. I’ve rounded up our highlights so far.

Kaia Gerber makes her catwalk debut

The daughter and doppelgänger of supermodel Cindy Crawford finally followed in her mother’s footsteps as she took to the catwalk this NYFW, shortly following her 16th birthday. Making her debut for Calvin Klein, Kaia went on to walk for Alexander Wang, Fenty X Puma and numerous other shows.

Gigi and Bella Hadid are sister goals

After another catwalk mishap for Gigi (she lost her shoe whilst walking for Anna Sui), sister Bella was there to lend a helping hand, and the sisters adorably leaned on each other during the show’s finale.

Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma show

In true Rihanna style, the show opened with BMX stuntmen, making way to a fun and diverse show that showcased the brand’s signature athleisure look.

Kim Kardashian debuts silver hair

KIM K Tom Ford

Another NYFW, another dramatic FROW look for Kim K. Beating 2015’s slicked back platinum bob, this year Kim debuted long, icy white locks at the Tom Ford show.

Public School’s immigration message

Following a host of designers opting to convey a political message through their shows lately, Public School’s pro-immigration performance hit the right notes, with the show held at the 19th century Five Points neighbourhood (occupied by waves of immigrants from different origins), and designer Dao-Yi Chow sporting a DACA Dreamers cap in support of young immigrants now threatened with deportation under the new Trump administration.

After Alexander Wang’s decision last season not to host an after party, this week’s presentation seemed to revolve around the post-catwalk festivities, with standing room only at the show, wristbands needed for entry and models including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber sporting feather-trimmed party hats emblazoned with ‘Party Animal’ and ‘Wangover’.

We’re staying tuned for the upcoming Fashion Weeks in London, Milan and Paris for more catwalk gossip!
