Friday Favourites: 14th July 2017

Maestra book

Lucy Tallen, PR and Social Assistant

If you’re looking for an exciting beach read to tuck into your hand luggage this month, give Maestra a try. Having recently finished the novel on my commute in to the Avant office, the compelling thriller by L.S Hilton has been launched to the top of my list of favourite books and just had to be my Friday favourite this week.

Maestra is my first foray into the world of steamy thrillers and it’s kept me engrossed for, sometimes, whole weekends – clearly a success! The scandalous plot line (many shades of shocking) is brimming with mystery and intrigue, which is being compared to the likes of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl and Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train.

Judith Rashleigh is a complex heroine you’ll either love or loathe, but either way, everyone is talking about her ambition to make her mark on the world. Let’s hope a film is on the cards!

For now though, we can happily make do with losing ourselves in Judith’s story while lying on white sands… perhaps with a martini in hand, too!

NYX orange eyeshadow palette

Ellen Kelly, Director and Co-Founder

This week I’ve been loving my new NYX eyeshadow palette in Colour Riot. I’m really into orange shades on the eyes recently, I think it’s the perfect summertime makeup look and looks amazing with a tan. This quad is fab because the shades can really be mixed and match for day and night – I’ve been using the tan shade in the corners of my eyelid, blended into the bright orange in the sockets during the daytime, then darkening it up with the deep berry shade in the corners for evening.

NYX is one of my favourite makeup brands at the moment, the products are all so on-trend but wearable, and really reasonably priced (this palette was £9). I love that it’s cruelty-free too.

Argan oil hair masque

Melissa Hassan, Account Executive

After just one use, I’m dedicating my Friday Favourite to a bargain beauty buy, Argania Spinosa, Argan Oil Special Treatment Masque from TK Maxx.

My super long locks are prone to some major frizz and dryness at times, so I’m forever on the look out for a decent hair mask. I’ve tried a number of professional brands including Philip Kingsley and Moroccan Oil to name a few, and whilst I have liked some, none so far have been worth the price tag. I came across this one whilst mooching around TK Maxx – the giant pot labelled with ‘organic argan oil’ caught my eye and it smelled so delicious, it was a no brainer.

The large size is just £9.99 for 500ml so it’s safe to say I was not shy with my application when I gave this a go last night. After leaving my hair to dry naturally over night, I woke up to minimal frizz! That’s a success in my book.

New Look fashion 1987 t-shirt

Jazmin Cabrera, Director and Co-Founder

My Friday favourite this week has to be this 1987 New Look t-shirt. I turned (whisper it) 30 earlier this year and feel like I’ve got over the initial shock enough now to proudly wear my year of birth across my chest, and so this tee was an absolute must-buy – especially as I can’t resist a striped tee at the best of times!

I wore it yesterday with pale step-hem jeans and mules, but can also foresee wearing it with black skinny jeans and ankle boots, or with a mini skirt and any number of shoes. Looks like I’ll be showing my age for years to come with a tee as easy to wear as this one!
