World Vegan Month: Best Vegan Menus

With November marking World Vegan Month, it’s a good opportunity for even the hardiest of meat eaters to opt for plant based cuisine either just for a change or with a view to altering their lifestyle in the long run. According to figures from the Vegan Society, the number of vegans in the UK has risen by a huge 350% over the last decade, so it’s no surprise that restaurants are finally taking notice, and developing their menus accordingly.

In line with World Vegan Month, I’ve rounded up my favourite vegan offerings at restaurants across Manchester and the UK.

Mowgli

Indian ‘home kitchen’ Mowgli offers street food in tapas-style dishes that are perfect for sharing, and their vegan menu is really extensive. My personal go-to dishes are the Tea Steeped Chickpeas, Picnic Potato Curry and Temple Dahl. (Locations: Corn Exchange, Manchester and Bold Street, Liverpool)

Wagamama

Quite surprisingly, Wagamama has only just launched its vegan and vegetarian menu in the last couple of months, but it doesn’t disappoint – the restaurant claims that the dishes are based around the idea that meat-free doesn’t have to mean taste-free. I’m so happy there’s now a vegan version of my favourite Yasai Yaki Soba. (Locations: nationwide)

Cosy Club

Cosy Club is a favourite spot of mine for lunching with friends, thanks in part to its amazing vegan options for brunch, sandwiches, mains and even puddings. I recommend the vegan breakfast, or the falafel, hummus and avocado sandwich. (Locations: nationwide)

Zizzi

I’ve raved about Zizzi’s vegan menu before, and it’s a real winner for hangover feasting or cheat days. Pizzas are made using a coconut oil based cheese, and there are plenty of other dishes on offer including pastas and desserts. (Locations: nationwide)

Bundobust

Bundobust is a definite contender for my favourite restaurant at the moment. Its entirely vegetarian menu is filled with dishes that are also suitable for vegans, and I challenge anyone that visits to not leave the restaurant in a food coma! The last few times I’ve been we have opted for the combo for six people, which includes every dish on the menu. (Locations: Manchester and Leeds)

Down The Hatch

This place is worth the trip to Liverpool – a vegan and vegetarian heaven, the menus comprise a huge range of comfort and junk food that are so tasty you’ll be surprised that they are meat free. Favourite dishes include the Salt ‘N’ Pepa Seitan Strips, and the deep fried Bucket O’ Veg. They have just launched a new menu, so I’m already planning my next visit. (Location: Duke Street, Liverpool)

GRUB

Street food market GRUB hosts Plant Powered Sundays every week, with independent traders serving up their finest vegan offerings. Stalls to check out include ITALFresh, Dilla Deli and Wholesome Junkies. (Location: Fairfield Social Club, Manchester)
